About The Vanilla Pages

What is Fine Food and Drink?

When attempting to set a definition for fine food and drink, objectivity is always an immediate issue. After all, one man’s meat is another man’s poison.

However, in order to offer assurance to our members, we have outlined criteria that we expect suppliers to demonstrate a high level of commitment to. When setting these criteria, we have considered the many factors that set suppliers of fine food and drink apart from those that too often fill our supermarket shelves with their mass and more cheaply produced goods.  We also appreciate that not all suppliers will be able to state 100% commitment to each of the criteria - they are meant as a guide and as a set of boundaries for producers to consider themselves against.

The Vanilla Team believe that in addition to taste, appearance and texture the following are integral to the production of fine food and drink and contribute towards the excellent standards demanded by the end customers, lovers of fine food and drink.

Criteria for Suppliers

  • When considering customer satisfaction, the primary driver is high quality over low cost.
  • As far as is possible to preserve the quality of your products, the use of additives and preservatives is avoided.
  • Although updated for modern food standards requirements, the use of traditional production methods has been preserved.
  • Employees have bought into the ideals of the company, contribute individually to its success, and are passionate about producing real food.
  • Good husbandry is practiced and integral to production methods.
